Equal employment, housing, and educational opportunities are key to economic security, yet only a handful of states have laws that specifically ban discrimination in these areas based on sexual orientation and gender identity. This patchwork of state and local laws means that many LGBTQ youth and children of LGBTQ parents live in jurisdictions without explicit, inclusive, and comprehensive protections in education, housing, and employment.
